These are stock LS1 headers. Not much to look at!
I wasn't expecting as much improvement as I got.
|
The new headers were custom made for the Olds and I elected to go with the Tri Y disign which improves midrange power
The existing exhaust system was just welded to the existing headers. Not pretty but funtional

The New headers
|
They are called "Tri Y" because two sets of cyl are collected and then the pair is collected, forming the "Tri Y".
|
The new headers finished and installed.

The difficult part was bending them around the steering
Had quite a time figuring out how to stop the rear axle hop on hard acceleration. The answer came in the form of a set of traction bars. I was dead set against the first several sets I looked at but the Competition Engineering "two bar" system works fantastic. On hard acceleration, the "doughnut" in the center of the bar acts like a shock absorber when compressed and limits the pinion travel which prevents it from hitting the top of the drive shaft tunnel.

One of the "Bars" can be seen in the lower right corner
